Dr Katrin Jahn is one of the UAE’s most trusted veterinarians and a highly accredited animal psychiatrist. In 2008, Katrin founded the German Veterinary Clinic in Abu Dhabi. She recently became a Double Board-Certified Specialist in Veterinary Behaviour Medicine, establishing her as one of around 10 such specialists worldwide. Katrin strongly believes that veterinary patients’ mental and emotional health is just as important as their physical health.
Veterinary Behaviour Medicine (also known as veterinary psychiatry) treats pets who have mental and emotional disorders, including anxiety, fears, and phobias, and exhibit aggressive behaviours, house soiling, lack of attention, or the inability to learn. One of the biggest components is addressing physical disease, such as chronic pain, which might contribute to unwanted behaviours.
The German Veterinary Clinic is the first Fear Free Accredited Veterinary Practice and Zero Pain Practice in the Middle East. The fear-free philosophy ensures that animals are treated to minimise fear, anxiety and stress, while the Zero Pain accreditation scheme emphasises acute and chronic pain treatment.
Dr Katrin also owns Trinity Veterinary Behaviour, a global online platform designed to educate pet owners, vets, and other pet care professionals on all elements of animal behaviour. The name “Trinity” reflects Katrin’s commitment to addressing every patient’s mental, emotional, and physical needs to provide a holistic approach and improve quality of life. It currently offers two comprehensive courses – Learn to Speak Dog and Learn to Speak Cat – that cover various topics related to canine or feline behaviour.
Katrin was born in Germany and moved to London when she was four. She later returned to Germany to embark on her veterinary degree in Munich. Aside from the clinical aspects of her work, Katrin is a passionate entrepreneur who loves developing business opportunities and networks. She hosts a podcast called The Pet Behaviour Chat and has established an active Facebook group called The Pet Behaviour Community.
